This course offers a comprehensive introduction to ceramics, ideal for beginners and those looking to strengthen their foundational skills. Students will learn essential wheel-throwing techniques—such as centering, shaping, and forming basic vessels—as well as hand building methods like pinch, coil, and slab construction. Whether you’re interested in functional mugs, sculptural forms, or textured surfaces, instruction will support your individual creative goals. You’ll also explore a range of surface decoration and glazing techniques, from carving and slip work to underglazes and layered glazes. By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid understanding of clay processes and a collection of finished pieces that reflect your personal style. Beginning and Intermediate Bookbinding: Making Your Own Paperback Book

Have you ever wondered how a paperback book is made? We will take a stack of paper, blank or with text, and transform it into a unique paperback book, complete with decorative soft cover. Bookbinders call it a perfect or double fan binding. You will learn to glue up individual sheets of paper to form the book block and make a cover to fit. This technique can be used to make blank books or with text, or remake an existing paperback that is falling apart. Many of the basic skills of bookbinding will be introduced. No experience necessary. Plus receive one 3-hour monitored open bench session each week. Tuition includes $5 materials fee. This class will take place in a studio accessed by a flight of stairs. Yes, kids can safely sew on a machine! Learn all about how the machine works and then get sewing with simple projects like a pin cushion and small bags. Students will also learn hand stitching utilizing embroidery threat and felt to create cute animals like a teddy bear, dogs and cats. Embellish your project with fun buttons, sequins, bling, and fancy stitches. Choice of projects will include small pillows, bags, stuffed animals and more. You'll be speeding along in no time! Overcome the mysteries of the sewing machine and discover how fun and easy it can be! Learn the basics of machine sewing including threading, operating, and troubleshooting. Practice using the machine and then move on to simple projects for yourself or for gift-giving.
