This is a fantastic introduction to pottery and a great way to get to know CAW’s studio. Spend your Saturday afternoon in the Creative Arts Workshop pottery studio. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn hand building techniques and be guided through throwing clay on the wheel. You’ll also discover how to embellish your pieces with surface textures and glaze finishes. Come join us and get creative! No experience necessary, all levels welcome. Water-based Printmaking

Explore print processes using safe water-soluble inks and novel plate supports. Develop personal imagery utilizing woodcut, linocut, monotype, monoprint, collagraph, Chine-collé, drypoint, and multiple inking and printing techniques. Experiment with innovative plate supports, archival rag and Japanese papers, non-traditional inking procedures, and other approaches to image making. All inks, rollers, plate supports, newsprint, print tools, presses, soap, and water are supplied. Some print papers are supplied and students are welcome to bring their own. A Book of Papercutting

Explore the shapes and patterns of the natural world through the art of papercutting. Students will learn to design and cut original compositions using freehand techniques with precision tools and fine scissors. Beginning with simple forms and gradually advancing in complexity, all work is created at a manageable 5 x 7" scale. Finished papercuts are assembled into a hand-crafted softcover book featuring framed pockets to hold and display the artwork. A reusable page template allows for flexible expansion. The final result will be a beautifully bound collection of intricate, personal designs. We will also take a field trip to a local professional paper cutter’s studio and gallery for a demonstration. This is a course for both beginners and those with some experience. Many of the basic skills of bookbinding will be taught including measuring, cutting, folding, and gluing. Techniques for Wheel Throwing

Beginning Bookbinding: The Hardcover Book

Ideal for both beginners and those with some experience, this offering focuses exclusively on creating a traditional casebound book, a “real” book. The process begins with tearing and folding paper, sewing together of multiple pages, constructing a flat or rounded spine, and ends with a hard cover wrapped in cloth and decorative paper. Throughout this process, students will learn core bookbinding skills including measuring, cutting, folding, sewing, and gluing. Intermediate students may choose to develop individual projects while continuing to build their technical skills. Enrollment in this class includes one 3 hour monitored practice session a week. Lessons will cover both functional and decorative pottery with emphasis on classical forms as we know them.
