Fun with Sewing

Whether you’re fixing a button, patching up your favorite hoodie, or making fun stuff like a stuffed animal or a cool tote bag, sewing is both useful and creative. In this adventure, students will learn all the basics—stitching, embroidery, and even how to use a sewing machine. Let’s get stitching and bring your ideas to life! Color and Design Principals in Printmaking – 2

Unleash a Spectrum of Hues in Your Prints.  Are you ready to explore the vibrant world of color in your printmaking practice? This workshop dives deep into the exciting possibilities of incorporating multiple colors into your prints. Understand how to select and combine colors effectively to evoke mood, create depth, and enhance the visual impact of your prints. This class will focus on collagraph and monotype printing, but the principals can be applied to any printmaking technique. Students will learn color theory using color systems color mixing and layering using a variety of techniques a multi-plate registration and trouble shooting multiple ways of creating color in prints: inking techniques and chine colle. This class will concentrate on creating a series of hands-on exercises as well as finished prints. Perfect for both beginners and experienced printmakers looking to expand their use of color. Exploring Linoleum Block Printing

Explore the art of block printing with linoleum. The instructor will demonstrate the process for carving and printing a 4” x 6” linoleum block, as well as a variety of inking and printing processes. Students will focus on developing original designs and concepts to prepare a linoleum block to ink, create a series, and print the results.  All printing will be done with water-soluble inks.  Includes one 3-hour weekly practice session during monitored practice hours. Tuition for this class includes a fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW. Floor Loom Weaving

Learn the basics of preparing and operating a loom.  Participants will weave a sampler piece combining a wide range of useful weaves. Beginning students will complete one or two simple projects of their choice by the end of this term. Urauchi Mounting

Give your prints and artworks a new lease on life through the traditional Japanese technique of Urauchi mounting. Perfect for artists and printmakers, this 2-day workshop focuses on flattening warped or wrinkled works and/or adding interest by mounting them on decorative Asian papers. On the first day, students will observe a detailed demonstration of the Urauchi process-wetting the artwork, applying rice paste, and carefully adhering the piece to a durable backing paper before stretching it on a board to dry. Participants will then mount a small work of their own. Don’t have artwork in need of flattening or enhanced margins? Pre-warped paper will be available for you to use. On day two, you’ll release your dried, now-flat work from the stretcher board and have a chance to mount additional pieces for practice. Monotype Workshop

Monotype is the creation of a one-of-a-kind print. It is the most painterly and spontaneous of all the printmaking processes. We will experiment with a variety of materials and techniques to create a series of unique, multilayered prints with a rich variety of mark making, pattern, and texture. Both oil based inks as well as water based materials will be used, and participants will be assisted on the studio’s printmaking presses.
