Experiment with color and pattern by creating a unique set of puzzle pieces and stencils to produce a series of prints.
Students will use painterly printmaking techniques and the hand operated printing presses to produce lively backgrounds for their puzzle pieces and stencil colorful shapes on the backgrounds and collage textured Asian papers in places for added interest. The magic happens when students ink and stamp or print their puzzle pieces over the backgrounds they’ve made to produce fantastical new patterns and colors.
Students will be able to complete several prints that might be very different from each other or include some of the same visual elements. The possibilities for color and composition are endless.
Once students have experimented individually, they will work together to share their puzzle pieces and stencils to create a large group print.
