Try your hand at this beautiful art form as we work week-by-week on achieving the ethereal qualities of watercolor painting.
Start with the basics by learning color mixing, paint and brush techniques, composition, followed by discussion of the special techniques which highlight the qualities unique to the medium. We will discuss correct applications and the pitfalls. Students will work from close observation of still life displays or photos. There will be teacher demonstrations at each class. Everyone is encouraged to develop their own artistic style while getting accustomed to the techniques of the medium.
This class is designed for beginners, but all levels are welcome. Experienced painters get a chance to practice their technique.

Students who withdraw 48 hours prior to the first class are eligible for a refund or credit toward another class, less a $25 registration fee.

Suggested Ages: 18+
-Hardboard - up to 16x20 in for backing, but any hard waterproof surface will do. You will put the paper on the hardboard to paint. -Paint colors recommended in 5 ml tubes Cotman paint colors ( inexpensive) or professional grade tube paint ( same names): Yellow ochre, cadmium orange, cadmium yellow, cobalt blue, cerulean, ultramarine blue, red, raw umber, burnt sienna, alizarin red, violet If you have additional colors, please bring them, you are free to use any color you desire. -Pad of Paper: Canson XL Watercolor 9x12 cold press 140 lb paper, 30 pages. -Brushes: round brush- synthetic #10 or #12 for watercolor painting. Also recommend Mop brushes, rigger brush, flat brushes if you have them. -Palette: white plastic palette with large mixing areas, suitable for watercolor.
