From the beginning of time, humans have decorated their environment from adorning their homes to embellishing their clothing. Decorative art is useful as well as beautiful – furniture, glassware, ceramics, woodwork, metalwork, and textiles are among the most important decorative arts.
Students will create their own piece of decorative art from examples including weaving a small rug or wall hanging, painting a tea set and cutting board, decoupaging a tray or jewelry box, creating a ceramic vase and toys, and decorating clothing. They will take inspiration from the work of professional artists and craftsmen and folk artists from around the world.
There will be a one-day field trip to the Yale University Art Gallery to view the Decorative Art Collection.
Tuition for this class includes a fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW.
