Take your etching skills to the next level with this workshop designed for intermediate to advanced printmakers. Delve into innovative methods that combine traditional etching with contemporary processes like photo and screen applications. Explore techniques such as photoresist processes, aquatint layering, and detailed screen transfers. We will cover using both photographic images as well as hand-drawn images that can be printed directly to metal.
Learn how to prepare images, adhere film, and study exposure, development, etching, and printing. Discover how to integrate digital and manual approaches to create intricate, multi-layered works of art with rich textures and tonal variations.
Basic etching experience is required.
Includes one 3-hour practice session per week during monitored practice hours.
The tuition for this class includes a materials fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW.
School Policies
Students who withdraw 48 hours prior to the first class are eligible for a refund or credit toward another class, less a $25 registration fee.

Please bring the following items to class: • Disposable gloves • Paper towels • Oil-based markers- Red or Black, thin and reg point • Printmaking Paper: 2-4 sheets of ~140lb printmaking paper. Common brands include: Reeves BFK, Arnhem, German etch, copper plate, or Stonehenge paper. • X-acto, scissors, pencil, sketchpad, and masking tape. • Basic etching tools- there are some general use tools in the printmaking lab. • Ability to transfer image files (USB drive, or laptop)
