For students with a good grounding in photographic exposure principles and camera operation, we offer an advanced lighting and composition course. Digital capture will be our main teaching medium but film shooters will find the course very valuable as well.
Students will learn fundamentals of lighting which will be applied to studio, artificial, portable and natural light settings.
The class will cover how to craft your images for any style or assignment, such as weddings, events, street photography, portraiture, documentary or landscape as well as common and uncommon compositional ideas. Familiarity with Lightroom Classic would be helpful as this will be our digital image processing tool.
Both digital processing and film development, including film/digital hybrid methods is covered as well as darkroom processing.
Time for shooting practice, digital image processing, and darkroom printing will be included.
Students should bring a digital and/or film camera capable of manual setting of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Film shooters would benefit with a digital 2nd camera. An on-camera speed light would be a plus. Film is supplied by student and we recommend HP5+, Tri-x, Kentmere in 400 ISO. If there is class interest, we will also cover introduction to medium and/or large format film capture and processing.
Some film cameras are available for loan.
Tuition for this class includes a fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW.
