Family Silkscreen

Explore the colorful world of silkscreen printing in this dynamic family workshop designed for kids and adults to create side by side. Using photographs, drawings, and playful experimentation, students will transfer their images onto paper, fabric, and more. Whether printing matching tote bags or crafting your own unique prints, this hands-on experience brings creativity and collaboration to life in every pull of the squeegee. No experience needed—just bring your imagination! This class is intended for one adult and one child per registration. Water-based Printmaking

Explore print processes using safe water-soluble inks and novel plate supports. Develop personal imagery utilizing woodcut, linocut, monotype, monoprint, collagraph, Chine-collé, drypoint, and multiple inking and printing techniques. Experiment with innovative plate supports, archival rag and Japanese papers, non-traditional inking procedures, and other approaches to image making. All inks, rollers, plate supports, newsprint, print tools, presses, soap, and water are supplied. Some print papers are supplied and students are welcome to bring their own. Beginning Boxmaking: The Slipcase

Make a box for a book. Create a slipcase that fits your book snugly while leaving the title and spine in full view. Learn the basics of box making using the tools of our fully equipped bindery. The design and functional aspects of your box, measuring and cutting binder’s board, paper and cloth, and the challenges of gluing are all topics that will be covered during the class.  This is a course for both beginners and those with some experience. Many of the basic skills of bookbinding will be taught including measuring, cutting, folding, and gluing. Intermediate students may continue with ongoing projects.  Enrollment in this class includes one 3 hour monitored open bench session a week. The tuition for this class includes a fee of $6 for basic materials provided by CAW. This class will take place in a studio accessed by a flight of stairs. This workshop dives deep into the exciting possibilities of incorporating multiple colors into your prints. Understand how to select and combine colors effectively to evoke mood, create depth, and enhance the visual impact of your prints. This class will focus on collagraph and monotype printing, but the principals can be applied to any printmaking technique. Students will learn color theory using color systems color mixing and layering using a variety of techniques a multi-plate registration and trouble shooting multiple ways of creating color in prints: inking techniques and chine colle. Introduction to Painting

Don’t be intimidated any longer—come learn to paint. This class will unfold the mysteries of painting by introducing students to the basics: selecting materials, setting up a palette, handling paint, and composing a picture. The class will emphasize learning to see what you wish to paint with the goal of rendering form clearly in terms of color and design. Come to the first class ready to paint. Exploring Linoleum Block Printing

Explore the art of block printing with linoleum. The instructor will demonstrate the process for carving and printing a 4” x 6” linoleum block, as well as a variety of inking and printing processes. Students will focus on developing original designs and concepts to prepare a linoleum block to ink, create a series, and print the results.  All printing will be done with water-soluble inks.  Includes one 3-hour weekly practice session during monitored practice hours.
