Experimental Printmaking for Teens

Discover the world of printmaking using simple, everyday materials in this exciting new addition to the Young People's Department lineup. Experimental Printmaking for Teens introduces students to a variety of techniques—including relief printing (aka stamping) and screen printing—while encouraging creative, outside-the-box thinking. Join us to explore image-making, experiment with multiples, and create unique prints in a fun, hands-on setting. No experience required! The tuition for this class includes a materials fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW. Intro to Jewelry & Metal Working for Teens

Design and create your own stackable ring or pendant from start to finish! In this hands-on metal class, students will learn essential jewelry-making techniques including sawing, filing, annealing, shaping, adding surface texture, soldering, and finishing. Along the way, they will explore design choices and how to turn an idea into a wearable piece of art. Students will work with copper and brass to create a unique piece that reflects their personal style—and leave with jewelry they’ll be proud to wear or gift to someone else. Create and Explore with Clay

This is a fantastic introduction to pottery and a great way to get to know CAW’s studio. Spend your Saturday afternoon in the Creative Arts Workshop pottery studio. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn hand building techniques and be guided through throwing clay on the wheel. You’ll also discover how to embellish your pieces with surface textures and glaze finishes.  Come join us and get creative! No experience necessary, all levels welcome. Saturday Starts with Tetra-Pak ® Printmaking Workshop

Explore an innovative approach to printmaking using recycled Tetra-Pak® packaging as an alternative plate material. This one day workshop introduces both dry point/intaglio and monotype techniques, with an emphasis on mark making, tool use, plate inking, ink removal and treatment techniques to provide a variety of print outcomes.  Process demonstrations and examples of Tetra-Pak® prints will support exploration and experimentation. All inks are water-washable for easy cleanup. Plate materials and paper are provided. All students will walk away with a final print by the end of the workshop.   This workshop is suitable for new and advanced level printmakers. Join us! Floor Loom Weaving

Learn the basics of preparing and operating a loom.  Participants will weave a sampler piece combining a wide range of useful weaves. Beginning students will complete one or two simple projects of their choice by the end of this term. Intermediate and advanced students will weave projects with more complex structures using multi-harness looms. Beginning students have a materials fee of $18 payable to the instructor. Beginning and Intermediate Box Making

Boxes have long been used by bookbinders to protect valuable books from dust and light—but they can also be objects of beauty in their own right. In this hands-on workshop, students will learn how to design and construct elegant and functional boxes—perfect for storing cherished keepsakes, personal treasures, or artist tools. Working with binders’ board, fabric, and decorative papers, explore the fundamentals of box construction while creating pieces that are both practical and visually striking. The first box will be a simple open-top box and students will gradually build skills to create boxes of varying sizes, incorporating lids, trays, drawers, and flaps. Along the way, learn essential book and box-making techniques, including accurate measuring, cutting, and gluing. No prior experience is required—this workshop is ideal for both artists and non-artists who enjoy working with their hands and learning a timeless craft.
