Discover the magic of etching, a printmaking process in which lines are incised into a metal plate to create an image.
Ink is worked into the grooves, the surface of the plate is carefully wiped clean, and damp paper is placed over the plate and run through a printmaking press to transfer the image onto the paper. Because the design on the plate is permanent, multiple impressions can be printed. Participants will explore both traditional etching, which uses acid, and drypoint, an acid-free intaglio technique.
