A relaxed, all-levels class for anyone interested in working with clay. Beginners will learn the basics of wheel throwing and hand building, while returning students can continue building skills or explore larger, more advanced projects. Enjoy supportive instruction and plenty of time to practice. Come make what inspires you and grow at your own pace. Wear clothes that can get messy. Pottery tool kits are available for sale in the studio for $27 and firing fees are $3.50/pound. Payable by credit card, cash, or check. Digital Illustration Inside and Out

Inspired by the exquisite botanical collages of Mary Delany and the bold floral designs of Marimekko, students will explore the beauty of plants and other small found objects through close-up observation and digital illustration. Working from nature, students will create richly detailed and imaginative compositions that celebrate pattern, color, and form. On pleasant days, we’ll venture to the park or a neighborhood café for fresh inspiration; when the weather turns, we’ll gather indoors to refine and develop our artwork. Let’s Get Sewing

Overcome the mysteries of the sewing machine and discover how fun and easy it can be! Learn the basics of machine sewing including threading, operating, and troubleshooting. Practice using the machine and then move on to simple projects for yourself or for gift-giving. Choice of projects will include a 4-patch pin cushion, Boho bags, zippered pouch, and items for the home such as pillow covers. Tips for altering clothes can also be covered. The Very Basics of Monotype Printmaking

Discover the most painterly and spontaneous of all printmaking techniques in this lively introduction to monotype. Using oil-based inks, you’ll paint and draw directly onto plexiglass plates, then run them through a printmaking press to transfer your image onto paper. Through inspiring examples, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, participants will create one-of-a-kind prints while exploring the many creative possibilities of this versatile medium. Advanced Hand Bookbinding Lab

These sessions are for experienced book binders who have taken Advanced Bookbinding at CAW and can work independently, or who have permission of the department head. Printmaking Beyond the Basics

Explore, experiment and add to your visual printmaking vocabulary. Dive deeper into the basics to bring your work to the next level using various surfaces and techniques, including Chine collé and collage, Mokulito, paper lithography, stencils, carborundum relief, sugar lift and aquatint. We will also layer and combine multiple processes and work with color and texture. Please bring paper towels and an apron to class. The Art of Now: A Yoga and Poetry Sensory Workshop

Creative writing, like a dedicated yoga practice, draws from the full range of ways we perceive the world. Yogic philosophy outlines five “koshas,” or layers of awareness, from the body and physical environment to connection to bliss and the divine. This holistic practice develops our ability to witness our experiences and sensations so we can find beauty and inspiration from what, without the practice, can seem mundane. By offering tools that feel simple, accessible, and sustainable, this 2-hour poetry workshop will help students create space for artistic expression by drawing on mindfulness practices and yoga postures that open channels for creative energy. Beginning with a short meditation and gentle movement to support participants in arriving in the present moment, the group will then be invited to respond to one of several writing prompts.
