This course will introduce the practice of writing and editing a short, cohesive collection of original poetry. The first half of the class will function as a traditional writing seminar, focusing on the reading and constructive discussion of poetry brought in by class members. The second half will center on group discussions about what makes a poetry collection effective—both on the level of individual poems and as a thematically unified piece of art. The final project will involve creating a small collection (10-20 pages) of poems, which we will then turn into distributable zines. Writers of all experience levels are encouraged to join.
