Finish That Project!

Do you have an unfinished book project collecting dust on your shelf or a partially completed box tucked away under your bed? Are you developing an idea for a book or box project that needs input? Bring it to the Bindery for dedicated time to finishing those projects! Whether you’re stuck in the middle of a bookbinding project or need guidance on developing a new idea, this workshop offers the perfect environment to bring your creative endeavors to completion. You can sign up for one or both sessions. This workshop will take place in a studio accessed by a flight of stairs. This isn’t your typical playground—get ready for a world of creativity! At CAW's playground, students will have access to a rainbow of materials: colored sand, wood, clay, tempera and watercolor paints, markers, tissue paper, and so much more! Using all these supplies, they’ll create amazing projects like masks, paper dolls, animals, birds, insects, portraits, and even imaginary creatures. How will they bring their ideas to life? By cutting, folding, stomping, splashing, blending, texturing, painting, and coloring—all while mixing their own one-of-a-kind colors. We bet you'll wish you could join in the fun too! What turns a simple drawing of a chair or a tree into a true work of art? It’s the artist’s imagination, emotions, and creativity. Embark on a journey of transformation, reimagining everything around us—trees, flowers, birds, animals, everyday objects, and more—as unique artworks. Students will refine their skills in realistic sketching, while also exploring innovative ways, like altering size, context, or perspective, to infuse imagination into their drawings. Transform realistic drawings into fantastical scenes and create something extraordinary! Weather permitting, there will be a one-day field trip to the Yale University Art Gallery. Architectural Adventures: Exploring Space and Structures

Fun with Metal

Hammer, saw, fold, stamp, twist, shape, and heat metal to make sculpture and jewelry. Students will learn techniques using copper and brass sheet metal along with wire to create 2-D and 3-D objects and forms. Have fun exploring basic hand tools such as mallets, cutters, files, pliers, and torches (one-on-one with instructor). Can I Eat That?

Explore the delicious intersection of food and art. Students will delve into the works of artists like Peter Anton, Claes Oldenburg, and Wayne Thiebaud, who transform culinary themes into captivating masterpieces. We’ll use their artwork for inspiration to make two and three dimensional artwork with a variety of materials including clay, cardboard, papier-mâché, fabric, paint, and paper. Weather permitting, there will be a one-day field trip to the Yale University Art Gallery to view examples of food in art. Join us for a feast of creativity and imagination!
