Design & Sew a Statement Cap

Create a one-of-a-kind statement hat that reflects your personal style while learning the fundamentals of hat making. Students will cut, assemble, shape, and finish a soft fabric cap using basic machine sewing techniques, gaining experience with pattern layout, curved seams, lining, brim construction, and professional finishing methods. Space will be given for instruction, troubleshooting, slower sewing speeds, and individual creative choices. Inspired by wearable art and everyday self-presentation, this workshop treats the cap as an accessory, part of a costume, as well as a small sculptural object. Students will leave with a completed handmade cap and a better understanding of how simple construction techniques can become personal design language. This is a mixed media art class for parent and child to work side by side! Each week will present a new project. You and your child can work together and independently. Relax and enjoy the process. Projects will include still life canvas painting, relief and silk screen printmaking techniques and upcycle decorations. You may create hand made gifts and wrapping paper! Advanced Memoir Writing: Pulling It All Together

Sewing Machine Basics: Build Skills & Confidence

Whether your sewing machine is brand new, has been sitting in a closet for years, or simply feels intimidating, this workshop will help you build the skills and confidence to start sewing. Students will learn how to thread and operate a home sewing machine, troubleshoot common problems, and practice essential techniques through guided sewing exercises. Topics include machine anatomy, threading the upper thread and bobbin, selecting needles and thread, adjusting basic settings, understanding stitch options and tension, and solving common issues such as skipped stitches, tangled thread, and broken needles. Students will also practice sewing straight lines, curves, corners, seam allowances, and backstitching while gaining the confidence to tackle future projects. The goal is not perfection. The goal is comfort, control, and confidence. This workshop is an excellent starting point for beginners and a helpful refresher for those who want to boost their confidence before joining another

Come relax and get creative in our studio using a wonderful collection of recycled materials. Give new life to decorative papers, fabrics, twigs, yarn, and more as you create greeting cards, bookmarks, wall hangings, collages, handmade books, pillowcases, placemats, or anything else you can imagine—the sky's the limit! Exploring Linoleum Block Printing

Explore the art of block printing with linoleum. The instructor will demonstrate the process for carving and printing a 4” x 6” linoleum block, as well as a variety of inking and printing processes. Students will focus on developing original designs and concepts to prepare a linoleum block to ink, create a series, and print the results. All printing will be done with water-soluble inks. Includes one 3-hour weekly practice session during monitored practice hours. Tuition for this class includes a fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW. Japanese Woodblock (Mokuhanga) – Beginner and Intermediate

Rooted in centuries of tradition, this hands-on, non-toxic process uses natural materials to produce innovative and beautiful contemporary woodblock prints. Beginners will learn to design, carve, and print a small edition using hand-applied pigments, rice paste, and kento registration to achieve rich color and subtle tonal blends. Intermediate students will expand their practice by combining mokuhanga with intaglio line work and embossing, printing expressive, dimensional images using both hand printing and an intaglio press. Includes one 3-hour practice session per week during monitored practice hours. Power of Value: Monochromatic Abstraction

Explore one of the most essential and often overlooked foundations of painting: value. Focusing exclusively on black, white, and gray, students will create an abstract painting while exploring the powerful role value plays in composition, movement, depth, atmosphere, and emotion. By setting color aside, students will develop a more sensitive eye for light, shadow, and tonal relationships while strengthening their understanding of composition and visual structure. Along the way, explore expressive brushwork, mark-making, layering techniques, paint consistency, and the use of mediums such as gloss glazing and airbrush medium to create rich, dynamic surfaces. Exercises throughout the day build toward one finished abstract painting.
