Creating Cyano-Monotypes Join us for an immersive workshop where you’ll discover the enchanting world of cyanotype monotypes! Cyanotype is a photographic process, known for its vibrant blue hues. Students will learn about the chemistry, paper types, exposure and learn techniques to craft unique prints using light-sensitive cyanotype paper. Using various objects and materials, along with toning and colorants, students will embrace spontaneity experimenting with various objects and materials. We’ll explore how to layer textures, patterns, and organic materials to create stunning one-of-a-kind artworks. Advanced Digital and Film Photography

This course equips photographers to create impactful images and develop their artistic style. Students will learn essential techniques like aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to capture visually compelling photos. Instruction includes when to use full manual settings versus aperture or shutter priority and auto ISO. Sessions include guided shooting with a model, and practical skills in digital image processing with Adobe Lightroom Classic, as well as black-and-white film development. Students will also receive an introduction to darkroom silver printing, with dedicated studio and darkroom sessions for film photographers. Corian Relief Engraving

Learn how to engrave and print from Corian using traditional wood engraving tools such as burins and gravers. Students should submit their image two weeks before class begins, allowing the instructor to "embed" it into the block using a dye-sublimation process. (Instructor email will be provided after registration.) The first session will focus on students cutting the block. The second session is devoted to printing. Tools will be provided or you can bring your owns. Tool usage and sharpening will be discussed. Student will leave with 3 prints from their 6" x 8" image. Join archivist Jennifer Coggins from Yale’s Beinecke Library for an introduction to preserving the records and stories you want to pass on to future generations. Learn strategies for deciding what to keep, preserving materials in different formats, and applying “archival thinking” in our day-to-day lives. Jennifer Coggins is the Community Engagement Archivist for the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University. In this role, she helps community members preserve personal, family, and organizational records; promotes engagement with archival collections and practices; and supports local history work. Greener Intaglio/Etching Techniques

Etching, a classic intaglio printing technique, involves incising lines into copper through a protected surface and then “etching” them in acid—a method dating back to Dürer and used from the Renaissance to modern times. This class introduces environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional etching featuring different types of water-based inks, Baldwin's Ink Ground (B.I.G) and Lascaux grounds, and coffee-lift techniques. Some products used in this class may be irritating to highly sensitive people. Includes one 3-hour practice session per week during monitored practice hours. Casting Small Objects and the Art of Pewter

In this introductory foundry course, you'll explore the art of metal casting using pewter. Each student will have the opportunity to either choose a small object or sculpt a unique figure out of wax. You'll then create a mold using high-temperature silicone, and finally, cast your creation in pewter. This is a perfect introduction to foundry work, where you'll walk away with a one-of-a-kind pewter object that you've crafted from start to finish. Join us for a creative experience that combines sculpting, molding, and metal casting! Please bring a small object, about the size of a tennis ball, to the first class.
