There are many variations of the accordion book used in both traditional and artistic bookbinding.
Come learn this terrific variation, where the pages are cardboard panels hinged together with the whipstitch sewing. This kind of sewing allows for a totally flexible hinge area. The sewing can also be extended to be decorative around the edges of each panel. The board pages will display your decorative papers, photographs, artwork, printed images or other ephemera. You may also choose to use provided decorative paper or maps.
Students will make one version with rectangular panels and there will be a demonstration of a version with free-formed shaped panels.
Note that this is not an archival book and the pages might touch each other. It is not suitable for valuable photographs or materials that smudge.
Beginners welcome as many basic techniques of book binding will be included.
