Carve an image from the surface of a block of wood, roll ink onto it, and take an impression or print it and you have just created a woodblock print.
But this is no ordinary woodblock printing workshop. Before you even get into the studio, students will create an image and send to the instructor (contact details provided after registration) and the instructor will silkscreen your image onto a 6″ x 8″ board of Japanese Shina Plywood.
Once you arrive at the studio, students will focus on cutting the image into the block on the first day and the second day will be spent printing.
Woodcut tools will be available to use for a wide variety of cutting marks. Various techniques will be discussed, including tool handling and sharpening.
Students will leave this workshop with their woodcut and at least 3 prints on Seikishu mulberry paper.
Images will be due to the instructor on June 15, 2024.
Class fee payable to instructor on first day of $20 includes the image transfer, block of wood, and paper to print on.
School Policies
Students who withdraw 48 hours prior to the first class are eligible for a refund or credit toward another class, less a $25 registration fee.
