Printmaking Class: All Levels

Unleash a Spectrum of Hues in Your Prints. 

Are you ready to explore the vibrant world of color in your printmaking practice? This workshop dives deep into the exciting possibilities of incorporating multiple colors into your prints. Understand how to select and combine colors effectively to evoke mood, create depth, and enhance the visual impact of your prints. This class will focus on collagraph and monotype printing, but the principals can be applied to any printmaking technique.

Students will learn

  • color theory
  • using color systems
  • color mixing and layering using a variety of techniques a
  • multi-plate registration and trouble shooting
  • multiple ways of creating color in prints: inking techniques and chine colle.

This class will concentrate on creating a series of hands-on exercises as well as finished prints.

Perfect for both beginners and experienced printmakers looking to expand their use of color.

The tuition for this class includes a fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW.

School Policies

Students who withdraw 48 hours prior to the first class are eligible for a refund or credit toward another class, less a $25 registration fee.

Suggested Ages: 18+

Prerequisites: No specific printmaking experience is required, but a basic understanding of any printmaking process is beneficial.
6 Week Session: Wednesdays, 6–9 pm, 10/22–12/3, No class 11/26

Supplies:
Please bring to class: 

•        Paper towels
•        Basic art supplies: Pencils, fine and reg point Sharpies, craft knife, scissors, artist tape,
•        Brayers: assorted sizes (there are some general use brayers in the lab)
•        Bring items to create stencils and collagraph plates, including various types of cardboard, textured papers, tape (different textures), netting, and fabric scraps. Items need to be run through a press: must be thin (1/8 in thick or less) but textured is best. Found objects are perfect.
•        Printmaking Paper: 2-4 sheets of ~140lb: Reeves BFK or similar, 9x12 pad white hot press paper (Stonehenge, Lenox or Richeson) for multiple 4x6 swatches. (paper specifics will be covered in email before class)
•        Assorted thin colored or patterned papers
•        Freezer paper or palette paper
