Love textures and seeing underlayers peeking through? Then Cold Wax Painting is the medium for you; it allows one to build up layers and capture depth.
Cold wax is a method in which oil paint (remains of old tubes) or oil stick are mixed with the cold wax medium. Drawing, painting, printmaking, and college techniques are used to create complex layered works that reveal parts of underlying layers.
Students will learn how to mix oil paints and cold wax medium, how to prepare a palette, and what tools can be used to create marks and texture. Discover how to create a range of marks and textures and approaches for incising, exposing, and scraping away layers. Have some old encaustic paintings – make them brand new using this method.
Gloves, cold wax and tools will be provided.
Tuition for this class includes a fee of $15 for basic materials provided by CAW.
