Metal Sculpture Open Studio

Experienced participants who have been approved by an instructor are welcome to join these weekly self-directed sessions. Please note that no formal instruction is provided. Price below is for one session during the time period of 4/24/26 - 6/12/26. You can register for multiple sessions by calling the front desk at 203-562-4927. Please dress in long sleeved shirts and long pants (natural, flame-resistant fabrics like 100% cotton or wool, no polyester or nylon), closed toed shoes, and hair tied back. Metal sculpture and Jewelry/Metalsmithing students are both welcome in this open studio Please call 203-562-4927 if  you are not a current student to receive instructions for approval. School Policies Students who withdraw 48 hours prior to the first class are eligible for a refund or credit toward another class, less a $25 registration fee. Please click here for more details.

All Levels Metal Sculpture

Learn a variety of approaches to creating metal sculpture, including welding (oxyacetylene and MIG), brazing, cutting (torch and plasma cutter), hammering, and more. Ideal for intermediate and advanced students, this all-levels class supports the development of independent metal sculpture projects in a collaborative studio environment. Beginners are also welcome and will learn the fundamentals of shop safety, oxyacetylene and MIG welding, and how to use additional tools to finish and enhance their work. Students are encouraged to pursue self-directed projects while gaining inspiration from the techniques and ideas of fellow participants. Includes one 3-hour weekly practice session during monitored practice hours. Students should wear 100% cotton long sleeves, jeans or work pants, and closed-toe boots.  No synthetic mesh, plastic, or cloth. Metalsmithing/Jewelry

Learn basic metalsmithing for making jewelry, developing new skills, or strengthen existing ones. Weekly demonstrations introduce tools and techniques required for working with nonferrous sheet metal and wire. Demonstrations may include sawing, filing, cold-connecting, soldering, surface embellishment, forging, shaping, fold forming, finishing, and patina coloring. The tuition for this class includes a fee of $40 for basic materials provided by CAW.
