Junior Artists in Residence

Nellie Shevelkina

Be a junior artist-in-residence in our art studio and paint, collage, sculpt, and build using tempera and watercolor paints, oil and chalk pastels, and wood and recycled materials. Master painters and their works will be introduced throughout the week.

Suggested ages: 4-6

Junior Architects and Builders

Create your own 3-D buildings from reclaimed wood, cardboard, recyclable/sustainables, mixed media, and papier-mâché.

Grow a Garden

Nellie Shevelkina

Inspired by nature and working from both observation and imagination, students will create 2-D and 3-D botanical and nature-inspired artwork in clay, collage, painting, and drawing. Students will learn to plant flowers and herbs (seedling plants) and to respect and care for plants including watering, deadheading, and picking and pressing flowers and leaves.

Picasso Power

Eva Scopino

Create imaginative 2- and 3-D artwork inspired by Pablo Picasso including faces, portraits, masks, figures, and animals. Learn about his colorful, expressive art through working with clay, paint, pastels, collage, cardboard, scrap wood, papier-mâché and mixed media.

Fairy Tales and Magical Creatures

Eva Scopino

Create imaginative artwork inspired by royalty and magical creatures such as crowns and castles; wands and wings; and dragons, unicorns, and mer-people. Create masks, puppets, 3-D magical creatures, and build a castle. Art materials include clay, paints, collage, glitter, papier-mâché, cardboard, wood, and mixed media.

Pet Show

Eva Scopino

Create artwork inspired by a favorite pet animal-real or imaginary-and include spots, spirals, stripes, fur, feathers, fluff, slime, and scales. Sculpt clay animals, paint a pet portrait, make an animal mask or a cuddly pet pillow, or create a 3-D papier-mâché animal and a habitat/home for it. We’ll conclude with a pet show for family and friends. Every pet will get a ribbon.

Pirates, Pixies, Knights, and Wizards

Legends, lores, and fairy tales are the lenses for experiencing other children’s lives and imaginations across places, time, and history. Students will create objects and artifacts from popular stories like Peter Pan, Sir Lancelot, and Harry Potter and engage their imagination with role-play and games.

Magical World of Colors

Celebrate the magical world of color. Explore color mixing, patterns, stamp-printing, colorful clay, pastels, color wheels and papier-mâché using tempera paint, watercolor, collage, and rainbow art. Learn and be inspired by global folk arts and modern artists including Vincent van Gogh, Wassily Kandinsky, Yayoi Kusama, Leo Lionni, Franz Marc, Henri Matisse, and Frank Stella.
