Creative Arts Workshop seeks proposals for an exhibition to open in early January 2020. Each year, CAW presents 8-10 exhibits, including curated traveling shows, an annual student show, and the Celebration of American Crafts. Proposals for group exhibitions only will be considered for 2020. One person should organize and send the proposal, which should include the following:
- a cover letter with name and contact information
- 3 digital images from each artist who will be exhibiting
- a list accompanying the images, with mediums, sizes, and dates
- an exhibition proposal describing your ideas (the theme or unifying approach of the group, the relevance of the work to the greater New Haven community, for example)
All proposals should be sent to gallery@creativeartsworkshop.org by September 30 for consideration. Please use “Winter Calling” in the subject line.
EXHIBITION REQUIREMENTS
If your proposal is selected, you will be asked to:
- provide several high-resolution (600 dpi) images of works in the exhibition for use in publicity
- provide mailing lists – physical and email – for announcements
- provide an inventory list with prices (or insurance values if not-for-sale)
- provide a curatorial statement about the exhibition
- provide artist bios and/or resumes
- work with the Gallery Manager to install the exhibition
CAW will:
- provide an exhibition agreement to be signed by the artists
- create promotional materials for social media
- publicize the exhibition
- print wall labels and text, pricelists if appropriate, and exhibition signage
- provide an opening reception
- insure the artwork while it is at CAW
- handle any sales and retain a 40% commission
GALLERY SPECIFICATIONS
Wall: 67 linear feet downstairs, and 86 linear feet on the mezzanine, all painted white
Ceiling: 9’3″ ceilings throughout, plus a large central area (288 square feet) that is open to the second-floor ceiling
Eight portable walls (each 4’W x 8’H x 2’D) provide additional hanging space and flexibility in exhibition layout. Numerous outlets on every interior wall. A limited number of free-standing pedestals and display cases are available.
