Explore the joy of painting in this beginner-friendly class. Students will learn fundamental painting techniques, including brushwork, color mixing, and layering. You’ll be guided through observational exercises designed to build both confidence and skill. Students may choose to work in either oil or acrylic paint.
CAW does not supply paint, brushes, or canvas. Please see the list below for what students need to bring.

Students who withdraw 48 hours prior to the first class are eligible for a refund or credit toward another class, less a $25 registration fee.

The instructor will send a detailed list 2 weeks before class. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions. Paint is the most important supply for the class. Look for “student grade” from reputable brands. Colors: titanium white, yellow ocher, yellow light, ultramarine blue, napthol or cadmium red, and black. (No “process color”) Acrylic : Liquitex Basics Acrylic Paints - Set of 10, Starter Box, (best deal with brushes) or Utrecht set 6 or Golden Acrylics set 6, both need additional yellow ocher · Retarder and acrylic painting medium · fine spray water bottle & cup for rinsing brushes Oil: Gamblin 1980 or Utrecht student set · Gamblin oil medium gel and Odorless turps- Gamsol or turpenoid · Murphy’s oil soap and vegetable oil to clean brushes · Brushes: 5-7 student set in a variety of shapes and sizes · 9 x 12 canvas pad- 10 sheets. · Palette knives · Disposable palette pad or Freezer paper · Roll Paper towels · Masking tape · Pencil and Sketch pad · Apron
