Miniature Book in a Box

If you are fascinated with little things and have a love of detail, making miniature books is for you! In this course we will make a simple, hand sewn, hardcover book with many small pages and a custom clamshell box to match it. All of the basic techniques of bookbinding and box making will be introduced. No experience is necessary. Enrollment in this class includes one 3-hour monitored practice session a week.

Intermediate + Advanced
Advanced Hand Bookbinding
with Gisela Noack
Expand your skills and interests in bookbinding and restoration with individualized instruction. Teacher and students may decide to work on a special project, plus receive one 3-hour monitored open bench session each week.
Supplies: Materials: small amounts of binder’s board, bookcloth, decorative paper, japanese tissue, glue, thread. Tools: sewing needles, scissors, paper and board cutters, backing press, nipping press, kwik print press.
Prerequisite: Two Basic Bookbinding classes or equivalent experience and instructor permission is required.

Monitored sessions for binders registered for courses and for those with experience. Fee includes materials for binding and use of the equipment in the Bindery. Students must be approved by an instructor to enroll. No instruction. Sign up in advance. Sessions will take place some Tuesday evenings 6:30-9:00, some Friday afternoons 12-4, and some Saturday mornings with exact dates and times to be posted at the start of the semester.
Prerequisite: Registration in a Book Arts class in the current semester or permission of an instructor and orientation to the Bindery by the department head.
