We have an opening at CAW in the pottery department for a Studio Potter!
Studio Potters are an integral part of the Pottery Studio at CAW. The program provides not only an opportunity to engage with clay arts toward a deeper understanding of the craft, it also offers space to create work and to participate in a larger community of makers and creatives.
Studio Potters learn to fire bisque and glaze kilns, mix/develop studio glazes, understand how to use and maintain studio equipment. In exchange for the learning and educational aspects of the program, they are responsible for helping to maintain a functioning and orderly clay studio, mixing glazes and for firing all the ware students make each semester. Studio potters have a dedicated work space in the studio, and enjoy access to study and develop their skills.
There are presently 9 studios potters who learn (via OJT) to fire the bisque and glaze kilns, mix/develop studio glazes, help maintain the studio, and monitor practices.
Membership in the studio potters is open to any student who has:
- Attended classes at CAW for at least two terms
- Has shown an interest in the craft
- Is physically capable of doing the work
- Has the time to devote to the group’s duties (typically 4 hours/week).
