All Levels Metal Sculpture

Learn the various approaches to creating metal sculptures, including welding (oxyacetylene and MIG), brazing, cutting (torch and plasma cutter), hammering, and more. Includes one 3-hour weekly practice session during monitored practice hours. Students should wear 100% cotton long sleeves, jeans or work pants, and closed-toe boots.  No synthetic mesh, plastic, or cloth. The tuition for this class includes a materials fee of $40. Introduction to Watercolor

Try your hand at this beautiful art form as we work week-by-week on achieving the ethereal qualities of watercolor painting. Start with the basics including color mixing, paint and brush techniques, and composition. Learn about correct applications, special techniques, and the uniqueness of  watercolor painting. Students will work from close observation of still life displays or photos with teacher demonstrations at each class. Everyone is encouraged to develop their own artistic style while getting accustomed to the techniques of the medium. This class is designed for beginners, but all levels are welcome. Silkscreen/Serigraph Printmaking

Silkscreen/serigraph printmaking is a highly versatile process used to transfer images onto a variety of surfaces. Students will transfer photo images (photography, drawing, painting, or multimedia art) to the printing screens and print onto paper, fabric, or wood panel.  Image separations (digital and hand) to print images with more than one color as well as learning how to register multiple colors for printing will be discussed. Get Started with Memoir Writing

Explore the modern and popular craft of memoir writing. Every person has a story to tell. No matter your age, education, family, or location, your life is filled with tales big and small. Through workshopping and class critiques, students will explore how to shape their memories into cohesive and compelling narratives. Topics will include character development, setting a scene with vivid descriptions, authentic dialogue, building your story arc, and compelling opening sentences. Participants will share short writing assignments each class. This course meets every other week. Adventures in Clay

Explore the creative possibilities of clay by shaping and molding it into one-of-a-kind works of art. Each week, young artists will create a specific project including bowls, animal figurines, and masks.  Our studio potters will fire each clay masterpiece and they will all be ready to take home by the end of the class. Some pieces will also be glazed by the students and fired a second time, resulting in beautifully colored pieces. Clay can spark imagination, encourage children to think creatively and express themselves in new ways. It can also help young people develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and emotional expression through hands-on activities. These handmade creations will become the start of a wonderful ceramic collection crafted by a young artist! Advanced Pottery Lab

Pottery Studio Monitor

Monitored sessions for participants with experience, and approved by an instructor or department head.  Please note there is no instruction during these sessions.  Wear clothes that can get dirty. Sketching Nature

In this class, students will develop their drawing skills by observing and sketching both nature and architecture. We will begin by drawing shells, flowers, fruits, and animal replicas in the studio. As the weather warms up, we’ll take our sketching outdoors to capture trees, flowers, and buildings in the CAW area. The class may also include exciting field trips to Edgerton Park and the Peabody Museum offering even more inspiration for our artwork! Water-based Printmaking

Explore print processes using safe water-soluble inks and novel plate supports. Develop personal imagery utilizing woodcut, linocut, monotype, monoprint, collagraph, Chine-collé, drypoint, and multiple inking and printing techniques. Experiment with innovative plate supports, archival rag and Japanese papers, non-traditional inking procedures, and other approaches to image making. All inks, rollers, plate supports, newsprint, print tools, presses, soap, and water are supplied. Some print papers are supplied and students are welcome to bring their own. Digital Art Foundations for Young People

Unleash your imagination with Procreate. Students will be introduced to the different brushes, principle of layers, color palette, effects, and symmetry using sets of Procreate pencils, inks, paint brushes, and digital tools. Instruction will be given in everything from basic shapes to designs, lively scenes, and characters culminating in the creation of their own unique illustrations. Sketching as a Chef

Bring your culinary imagination to life on paper! Food has a long history as a subject in art, and in this fun, hands-on drawing course, young artists will use fruits, vegetables, snacks, desserts, and entrees as their inspiration. Students will explore drawing techniques like shading, line work, color, and contrast while learning the fundamentals of creating art. They’ll sketch everything from their favorite foods and imaginative creations to picnic scenes and table set-ups.
