Changing Perspective

Play with perspective to create dramatic and/or disorienting images by focusing on depth perception. In order to achieve a sense of perspective, objects are drawn or painted in such a way that they appear to be getting smaller as they move further away from the viewer. Objects above the horizon line slant down towards it; objects below the horizon line slant up towards it. If a shape straddles the horizon line, then the lines will go both up and down. Learn the basics of drawing three dimensionally with simple one- and two-point perspective lessons using charcoal. The tuition for this class includes a $10 materials fee. Making Functional Pots

If you are interested in making ceramic pieces for the home, this class is for you. Making functional pots is important to all levels of students, whether you throw pots on the wheel or prefer to build by hand. Students will learn ways to modify forms to create pieces uniquely their own. Classes will include various techniques for pot making as well as considerations pertaining to each form. Surface treatments including engobes, stains, and glazes will also be covered. Both teacher demonstrations and one-on-one student instruction will occur each week. Wear clothes that can get dirty. Students will familiarize themselves with human body proportions and shapes and begin understanding how different body parts relate to each other. Using a manikin and each other as models, students will practice drawing the human form in different poses and movements. Discover how artists use different styles to represent humans such as formal portraits, comics, animation, cartoons, graphic novels, and then students will try it themselves! PNSNE – Experimental Approaches to Cyanotypes

Discover introductory and experimental approaches of Cyanotype printing, an alternative photography process that uses light sensitive chemistry and sunlight to make prints. Students will coat various papers and/or other surfaces to capture images from a variety of sources including objects placed directly on the sensitized paper, film negatives placed in contact frames, and drawings on transparent and/or semi-opaque surfaces. Experiment with additives to the chemistry such as watercolor and gouache pigments which are used to extend the color range. Our expert printmaker will guide participants through the intricate process of adjusting ink viscosity, demonstrating how varying the thickness and flow of inks can achieve different textures and effects. Depending on the intensity of the colors used, this sequence can produce strong color and tonal contrasts with distinct textures and patterns. Participants will witness firsthand how overlapping hues and shades can create rich, nuanced compositions that tell a visual story. Anime Character Design using Procreate

Learn to use Procreate software to create anime characters. Anime is a style of Japanese animation known for its blazing graphics, energetic characters with large eyes, untamed hair, lengthy arms and limbs, and attractive themes such as sci-fi, romance, and supernatural forces. This exaggerated design allows the characters to convey their emotions more freely. No typical sand or slides at this playground! CAW's playground has colored sand, wood, clay, tempera and watercolor paints, markers, tissue paper and more items than we have space to list here. Students will use all these supplies to create projects including masks, paper dolls, animals, birds, insects, portraits, and imaginary creatures. How will they do all this? By cutting, folding, stomping, splashing, blending, texturing, painting, and coloring (after they mix their own unique colors). Bet you wish you could stay too! PNSNE – Ink and Knife Chinese White Line Woodcut

A white line woodcut is a multi-color image printed from a single block of wood. The technique, done entirely by hand and without a press, was developed from traditional Chinese-style, multi-block woodcuts. Yuemei will demonstrate step by step, how to use brush and knife to create and carve the image and print the block using water-based inks and hand pressure.
