Creative Arts Workshop seeks an energetic, organized, highly reliable individual capable of volunteering 20 hours a week, starting in September 2018 and running through January 25, 2019 to assist the coordinator and the work group planning the 49th Annual Celebration of American Crafts. Note that from August to mid-September, Intern may elect to work fewer than 20 hours per week.
The Celebration is an exhibit, sale, event, and fundraiser curated by CAW, the largest non-profit community visual arts school in Connecticut. Located in the heart of the Audubon Arts district in Downtown New Haven, CAW offers 300 courses to 1,000 students annually, and gallery exhibits by local and national artists. Proceeds from the Celebration support CAW’s ongoing commitment to providing affordable, relevant, and high-quality arts instruction in the community.
While the sale itself is only November 24-December 28, 2018, the Intern is vital for coordination and organization before, during, and after Celebration. The Intern plays a critical role, with a high degree of responsibility, in the small team that plans and implements the Celebration. We are looking for someone who can provide assistance to the Celebration coordinator, CAW staff, and the Celebration work group with inventory oversight and systems input, problem-solving, and volunteer coordination and training.
During the sale the intern will coordinate the volunteer sales force, communicate as needed with artists, and direct the events, special sales assistants, and other volunteers. After the sale, the Intern will oversee the break-down, supervise and coordinate the packing and shipping of all unsold merchandise not being picked up by the artists, and coordinate with staff on the reconciliation of the opening and closing inventories of the merchandise.
