Virginia Melnyk: Geometric Curtain
August 7 – September 7, 2015
Opening Reception: Friday, August 7, 5 to 7 pm
On August 7, Creative Arts Workshop raises the curtain on its 2015 August Installation, Geometric Curtain, Virginia Melnyk’s eye-popping exhibit.
Both a designer and an architect, Melnyk combines fabric and lights to create a three-dimensional wall of color and pattern equally impressive in night as it is in day. “My work involves computational parametric design where I generate three-dimensional models that I can export into 2-D patterns to be re-assembled,” explains Melnyk. “The real fabric will have lots of natural pleats and wrinkles as it naturally hangs in the window.” Melnyk, who lives in Buffalo, NY, holds a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania School of Design. She works in small product design as well as large-scale architectural projects and has won numerous awards.
The August Installation is on display from August 7 through September 7. Executive Director Daniel Fitzmaurice suggests, “You can bring your lunch, bring your friends, and sit outside to enjoy and discuss this remarkable piece even when we’re not open.”

About the August Installation
The August Installation is a unique opportunity for artists to exhibit in the Hilles Gallery of Creative Arts Workshop. Although the Workshop is closed to the public during August, the August Installation is on view through the two-story windows of Hilles Gallery.
The Gallery Committee will begin reviewing applications for next year’s Installation in early 2016. Stay tuned!
