Join the bldg fund, Y. Malik Jalal, Jasmine Nikole, Linda Vauters Mickens and Babz Rawls Ivy at Creative Arts Workshop on Saturday, February 25th for daylong programming on the occasion of Made Visible: Freedom Dreams!
All programs are free and open to the public, and will take place across the lower and upper Hilles galleries between 12 pm-4:30 pm. Seating is limited and first-come, first-served.
12 pm, 2nd Floor Hilles Gallery
Workshop: Hands-on Painting and Plant Potting Demonstration with Jasmine Nikole
In her public program, self-taught artist Jasmine Nikole shares painterly strategies for celebrating ancestry, bridging African diaspora, and honoring the land. She will also guide visitors through the process of potting plants, that will then be added to her site-specific painting installation to grow over the remaining weeks of the exhibition.

Performance: Spiritual Direction with Babz Rawls Ivy
Embodying the practice of spiritual direction–or being with people as they attempt to deepen their relationship with the divine–Babz Rawls Ivy welcomes visitors to sit with her, as they look at each other, hold hands and embrace on a bench surrounded by words of encouragement and affirmation.

Talk: Live Oral History Interview with Y. Malik Jalal and IfeMichelle Gardin
Join Y. Malik Jalal for a live oral history interview with IfeMichelle Gardin, whose family is featured in his site-specific photography installation exploring home as a space for Black families to dream, grow and thrive.

Performance: Freedom Dreaming with Linda Vauters Mickens, Marilyn Nelson, and Vanessa Ford
In her public program, Linda Vauters Mickens curates a selection of musical and spoken word performances that riff on freedom dreaming as a powerfully subversive and empowering act within the Black community. Performances by poet Marilyn Nelson and singer Vanessa Ford will be followed by an in-gallery conversation between exhibiting artist Linda Vauters Mickens and exhibition curator, Nico Wheadon.
