Mokulito is a form of lithography printmaking that uses wood as a printing matrix instead of metal or limestone. After the plate is prepared, marks are drawn with a greasy substance, etched with gum arabic, and then printed. The wood matrix also allows for carving lines into the woodblock print, adding another level of surface manipulation. This process produces detailed prints that differ from traditional lithography due to the uniqueness of the wood grain and texture.
The demo will show the step-by-step process and include a handout of the materials and process. Sample materials will be available for participants to try out.
