Introduction to Storyboarding

In person

Lamar Smith

Drawing + Painting Class: All Levels
Join teaching artist Lamar Smith for a 4-week intensive crash course on the storyboard: a graphic organizer that consists of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence. The class will focus on building the following skills:
  • how to depict an action
  • how to frame individual panels of the storyboard
  • how to layout background elements
  • how to create characters
Each week, we will dive into new aspects of the storyboard creation process:
  • reviewing fundamental concepts such as grid lines, perspective, and the rule of thirds
  • exploring examples such as The Matrix (1999) and Chicken Run (2000)
  • partnering up for critiques and sharing learnings with the group
  • creating storyboards!
