Join teaching artist Lamar Smith for a four-week intensive course on the creation of storyboards: a graphic organizer that consists of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence. The class will focus on building the following skills:
- how to depict an action
- how to frame individual panels of the storyboard
- how to layout background elements
- how to create characters
Each week, you will dive into new aspects of the storyboard creation process:
- reviewing fundamental concepts such as grid lines, perspective, and the rule of thirds
- exploring examples such as The Matrix (1999) and Chicken Run (2000)
- partnering up for critiques and sharing learnings with the group
- creating storyboards
