Experiment, create, and have fun! This course introduces students to the basics of drawing and painting.
The first two classes will be dedicated to drawing with a project called “Still Life Imagination Castles. “Students will build block structures to inspire their creative drawing of an imaginary castle.
The second two classes will be dedicated to painting with a project called “Hold it Up,” a Keith Haring inspired artworks where figures hold up a symbol that represents one of their favorite things. They will use each other as examples in a charade activity where they take turns holding their bodies in different positions while actually holding, or pretending to hold, an object in the air.
Students will learn new drawing and painting techniques, strengthen their skills, and develop their creativity. After brainstorming and forming individual ideas, students will draw and paint from life, memory, and their imagination. Upon completion, student works will be mounted and ready to be displayed. Class includes demonstrations, collaboration, and instructed studio work time.
