Young artists will create miniature stages and worlds where backdrops, props, and actors of their own design will be fashioned from paper, clay, fabrics and recycled materials. Using their imaginations, they will construct fantastic 3-D characters and settings to tell stories. The fundamentals of drawing and design, scale and perspective, and key concepts such as background, middle ground, and foreground will be explored.
Diorama building has a long and rich history. The term originated in 1823 and literally means “through that which is seen.” Dioramas, whether in miniature scale or as full-scale replicas in museums, have been the way people have seen into other worlds, and have been both educated and entertained. Viewing dioramas is fun and making them is even more rewarding. So whether you want to ace that next homework assignment, make your fantasy gaming more interesting, or perk up your dollhouse, creating miniature worlds could be the beginning of a passionate hobby.
