Botanical Monotypes: Printing with Nature

In person

Maura Galante

Focus on the botanical world as your print surface and subject! Explore color, layering, and creating stencils, and use oil-based inks and an etching press to transfer the designs. Everyone will leave the class with a number of monotype prints which are a one of a kind image.  Important note regarding materials preparation prior to class: participants should select leaves, ferns, flowers, grasses, and barks that have interesting shapes and textures. Place your findings between the pages of a newsprint pad to press to flatten them a bit and pull out excess moisture about 24 hours before the class. The tuition for this class includes a materials fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW. School Policies Students who withdraw 48 hours prior to the first class are eligible for a refund or credit toward another class, less a $25 registration fee. Cover to Cover

In person

Maura Galante and Paulette Rosen

Combine the spontaneity of monotype printmaking with the craft of bookbinding to make a unique artists’ book! The first 2 sessions will be devoted to creating a group of same size prints that work together as a series or tell a story.  They will explore one particular idea, theme or concept. In the last two sessions, students will learn to make an accordion book that can stand up and expand for display.  Using as many of your prints as you like for the pages, we will hinge them together with sturdy, color coordinated paper. We’ll make hard covers wrapped in book cloth, decorative paper or your prints. The result will be a beautiful, one of a kind book! Open to all levels. The classes in the bindery will take place in a studio accessed by a flight of stairs. For any accommodations please send a confidential email to registrar@creativeartsworkshop.org Tuition includes $20 for materials provided by CAW.
