Studio policies:

- Tools that are shared: warping boards, benches, lease sticks, shuttles, an bobbins and threading hooks should be cleaned by the student with antibacterial spray before and after each use.

- If using a different bench, please wipe it clean and return to original location.

- Looms should not be moved without permission of teacher.

- Please keep yarn and personal supplies in plastic bags at your loom.

- Students are encouraged to bring their own scissors, pins, pencils, notepads, and other small tools needed at the loom.

- Desk should be cleaned after student use, books and magazines before returning to the closet or shelf.

- Students may want to bring a cover for their loom.

- Extra hours will need to be scheduled ahead in order to maintain proper social distancing.

- Students will be required to sign in with name, date, and time for purposes of contact tracing.

- Students will be required to attend only the session they are registered for. No switching between sessions without approval.

“YES, AND” Patchwork: An Introduction to Improv Quilting

Jamia Weir

Create improvised and intuitive textile pieces using the “yes, and” mindset alongside techniques from improv quilting. We’ll draw inspiration from both contemporary improv quilters and the iconic quilters of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. You’ll learn various methods used in this freeform, expressive approach to quilting. Improv quilting is a wonderful way to begin exploring the art of quilting—or sewing in general. All experience levels are welcome, though some basic comfort with sewing is preferred. Open to teens and adults. A two part series: Day 1. Straight lines and angles...and...! Day 2. “Round Robin” collaboration and curves…and…! The tuition for this class includes a materials fee of $15 for basic materials provided by CAW. Artwork by Jamia Weir. Floor Loom Weaving

Learn the basics of preparing and operating a loom. Participants will weave a sampler piece combining a wide range of useful weaves. Beginning students will complete one or two simple projects of their choice by the end of this term. Intermediate and advanced students will weave projects with more complex structures using multi-harness looms. Beginning students have a materials fee of $18 payable to the instructor. Includes one 3-hour weekly practice session during monitored practice hours.
