Some recommended options: Art Spectrum Colourfix Pastel Paper (this is my preferred paper but is expensive) Canson Mi-Teintes pastel/charcoal paper. Drawing: Charcoal sticks, white pastel or conte, kneaded erasers, and/or soft 6B pencils Paint: any acrylic paint you have and brushes. If you don't have paint, hardware store Rustoleum makes cheap 8 oz cans of acrylic paint now in white, lemon yellow, pink or red, blue. Find a tiny black in any kind of acrylic. Brushes: Hardware store $1 wood handle 3/4" and 1" brushes with natural rough bristles are amazing- buy 6. Art long handled brushes for drawing in acrylic/oil size Round 2 and square end Tapered #6 Paper: CAW provides 4' newsprint, and you also need 30"x22" art Hot Press Bristol or other paper: or brown package-wrapping/mailing paper. Bring 3 sheets to first class, or a roll of brown to use for the semester.

Supplies students should bring if working in PENCIL: Pencils: H, HB, 2B (1 of each: “H” pencils are harder, “B” pencils are softer.) I recommend using “lead holders” or “architect’s pencils”— 2mm mechanical pencils (made by Kohinoor and Staedtler, among other companies) that are easier to maintain than regular wood pencils. They require a special rotary lead pointer sharpener. Pencil sharpener Long pose paper for pencil: Strathmore 400 Series 18” x 24” drawing pad or you could also try loose paper: Bristol Plate smooth finish (2 or 3 ply) Sketch drawing paper: Strathmore drawing paper is recommended and newsprint is provided.
