Portrait Drawing by Philip Pearlstein
Visit the New York studio of renowned painter Philip Pearlstein to sit for a portrait drawing! The portrait will be of one person, on a 14" x 12" sheet of paper, completed in one hour at a mutually agreed time.

Philip Pearlstein's work is in 63 museum collections throughout the United States, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Cesar Pelli Drawing
A hand-sketched 11” x 17” drawing of the Connecticut Science Center by renowned architect Cesar Pelli. Over the past twenty years, Pelli has designed buildings that have transformed the physical and cultural landscapes in various locations throughout the world.

Paris Review 2003 by William Bailey,
Juror of CAW’s 2008 Painting As Presence Exhibition

This etching is by contemporary realist painter William Bailey. William has paintings in museums and public art galleries all over the United States including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, among others. William Bailey is the Kingman Brewster Professor of Art Emeritus at Yale University. He was the juror for CAW’s 2008 National Exhibition, Painting as Presence.

Haifa Forest by Harold Shapiro
Harold is the CAW Photography Department Head. The photograph 20” x 24” was created above the city of Haifa, in the beautiful forest of the Carmel Mountains. Harold is a freelance photographer and exhibits widely. He is a graduate of New England School of Photography.

A Memory of a Sunset Illuminating Trees on West Rock by Peter Ziou
Peter is an art teacher at Hopkins School in New Haven and has worked at CAW for seventeen plus years. He writes, “CAW was my first home. It has a strong soul because every year it survives on love more than money; major thanks to the generous spirit of the people who work and make it run. It came from someone’s dream into a reality, and hopefully this idea that art belongs to everyone will continue to survive for the sake of artists and all people who feel art can make their lives more prosperous in feeling and spirit.” His work is gouache on rag paper and measures 16” x 13”. Peter exhibits nationally.

Bow Front Cherry Console Table
This bow front solid American black cherry console table has shaker-style tapered legs. It features a centered drawer, off-centered black walnut inlay, and the tapered legs have a slight incised reveal. It measures 54” x 16” x 33” and is perfect behind a couch or in a front hall.

Saint by Phyllis Crowley
The images from this composite archival pigment print come from a trip to Sicily. The saint is a wood figure that Phyllis came upon, and the porous stone background is taken from an ancient Roman ruin in Segesta. The work measures 9 x 9. Phyllis is a fine art and commercial photographer, now working digitally. In addition to teaching at CAW, she also teaches at the Norwalk Community College and the University of Bridgeport. In 1995 and 1999 she received the Artist Fellowship awards from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.

Tulips and Pitcher by Eileen Eder
This oil on panel 12” x 12” is by Painting and Drawing faculty member Eileen Eder. In addition to teaching at CAW, Eileen teaches at the Yale Center for British Art and other arts organizations. Eileen received her MFA from the Graduate School of Figurative Art of the New York Academy of Art and has studied at the New York Studio School and the Rhode Island School of Design. She exhibits throughout New England.

Print from a Walker Evans Negative
This print from a Walker Evans negative is made by John Hill, a friend and colleague of Walker Evans. It depicts a Southern church and is probably from the 1930s. The frame is donated by Cheever Tyler.

Dusk by Lisa Hess Hesselgrave
This is a matted archival print, and is one of a limited edition of 50. The print is signed by the artist, embossed by Tandem Editions, certifying its authenticity. It is printed using archival pigments on Museo 100% rag archival paper and measures 18” x 24”. In addition to teaching at CAW, Lisa teaches at Fairfield University, Housatonic Community College, Paier College of Art, SUNY, Purchase and University of Connecticut, Storrs. She exhibits in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New York. Included is a $80 framing gift certificate from Chapel Street’s renowned framer, Merwin’s.

Undulate/Orange by Blinn Jacobs
This casein, oil pastel on gatorboard measures 11” x 11” x 1”. Blinn Jacobs is an abstract artist. The basis of her work has been a dialogue between polygonal shaped canvases and the use of painter lines showing the interaction of color. Blinn studied at the Yale School of Art as a special student for four years and received her MFA in painting from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993.

Contemplating the Kindle by Ann P. Lehman
This steel, copper, and aluminum piece measures 12” x 18” x 18” and is created by CAW’s Sculpture Department Head, one of CAW’s founders and first President. Ann chose to examine her feelings about the technology that is confronting us today. Her love of books is her inspiration. Ann has done numerous one-woman sculpture shows and her work is widely collected. In addition to teaching at CAW, Ann teaches at Yale University. She received her BA from Smith College and studied at the University of Florence, Italy, the Cranbook Academy of Art and the Yale School of Art.

Cut-outs with Two Hands by Willard Lustenader
Will is on the CAW faculty and has exhibited throughout the United States. With regard to the cut-out still life paintings, he writes, “These pictures have developed as I combine my interests in early modernist collage and post war abstract color field painting with contemporary representational language.” This work is oil on linen and measures 16” x 26”.

This artists’ book is by CAW’s Book Arts Department Head. Paulette received a BA in Arts and Media from Williams James College. She studied bookbinding with Gisela Noack and D. Ann Lindbeck. When she’s not at CAW, she teaches in local elementary schools and for independent workshops. Paulette exhibits throughout the Northeast.

Studio Tour and Private Lesson with Karen Rossi
Join artist Karen Rossi for two hours of art and nature with a private lesson and tour of her Norfolk studio. Internationally known for her whimsical metal sculptures and Fanciful Flights gift products, Karen has been hosting art parties for young and old alike for over 20 years.

During your time together, Karen will teach you to create your own mermaid sun catcher to take home with you, along with memories of a studio tour and a walk in the woods, weather permitting. Offer expires Columbus Day weekend 2010. Note: Additional participants may be added for an additional materials fee of $12 per participant per hour.

Juror of CAW’s 2002 Matter as Protagonist Exhibition

This Epson ink jet print measures 16” x 10 1/2”. Jessica received her BFA from the University of Victoria in Canada in 1982 and her MFA from Yale in 1985. She has exhibited widely in North America and Europe, at such venues as the Dia Center for the Arts, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Open Air Museum in Middellheim, Belgium, the Power Plant in Toronto, Canada, and Mitchell-Innes & Nash Gallery in New York. Her work is represented in various collections all over the world. This is donated in recognition of Allan Bell’s generosity.

April in Paris!
Come to Paris and stay for a week in a two-room apartment which sleeps two comfortably and can accomodate two more on a convertible sofa. Equipped with an American kitchen and a bathroom with laundry facilities, the apartment is ideally located in the center of Paris, in the historic Marais district. Easy public transportation is available in all directions, and it is within walking distance of many historic sites. The apartment is on the fourth floor of a XVIII century building with lots of light, but NO elevator. Available during the month of April or at another mutually agreed upon time.

Vacation in Miami Beach on Exclusive Aqua Allison Island
Enjoy a week in a 10th floor Penthouse Condo in Miami Beach on exclusive Aqua Allison Island. The building was designed by Alexander Gorlin and the unit was designed by architect Rene Alexander. The couple splits their time between Miami and NYC and collect contemporary art. The space has been featured in Metropolitan Home July 2008 and Architectural Digest August 2006. It sleeps two couples with a master bedroom and guest room. Not suitable for children under 12 years old. The week will be mutually determined with the owners, known black-out dates are: November 27 - December 5, 2010; the week between Christmas and New Years 2010, and MLK week, January 14 - January 21, 2011.
