Printmaking Sampler

with Barbara Harder

Learn traditional and/or experimental printmaking processes while concentrating in one area or exploring many. Etching like Rembrandt, Goya and Kentridge; Monotype like Degas and Olivera; Woodcut like Durer and Frankenthaler; Lithography like Kollwitz and Rauchenberg. Be surprised and inspired while working in a supportive environment.

Note: Fee includes one monitored 4-hour print session per week. Open print sessions require faculty approval and adequate knowledge to work independently in a print studio. No instruction.

Supplies: (New students)CAW supplies inks, solvents, oils, acid, hand cleaner, etc. If you have printmaking supplies or paper, bring them to class. Eventually you will buy paper, plates, and tools as needed. Otherwise, we have items to get you started.

Monotype/Monoprint

with Maura Galante

Use a variety of printmaking methods along with Monotype to create unique, multi-layered prints. Combine traditional printmaking with digital, photographic, drawn or painted imagery to expand and explore your visual horizons. Participant can experiment with creating 3D sculptural prints. Returning students should bring ongoing projects.

Note: No class 4/26. Fee includes one monitored 4-hour print session per week. Open print sessions require faculty approval and adequate knowledge to work independently in a print studio. No instruction.

Supplies: (Returning students) Bring ongoing projects, tools, paper, plates, flexible putty knives, apron, and disposable gloves as needed. CAW supplies inks, solvents, oils, acid, hand cleaner, etc.

Websites for Professional Artists

with Beth Lovell

You’ve made the art. Now it’s time to make it available to the public! This class will provide a sampling of tools and online resources to create, and post your own portfolio site. Curate an online presence from developing content like artist statements, photos, and more. In addition, students can learn how to make their art see a return by building an online store.

Prerequisite: Basic computer knowledge required. Photoshop Elements or Photoshop are helpful.

Supplies: Come with a laptop that has Wi-Fi capability.

Silkscreen Printing

with Jon Weekes

Silkscreen is a highly versatile transfer printing process that allows original images to be printed onto multiple surfaces. Digital artwork, drawings, illustrations, photographs, poster designs, comic book art, paintings . . . most original artwork can be silkscreen printed. We will cover image color separation, negative printing, screen exposure, registration, and printing. Students can print any number of layers/colors; from simple 1-3 color art to elaborate 10+ color projects. Printing inks will adhere to many surfaces including paper, fabric, wood, and metal. Great for multi-media artists. Beginners and advanced students welcome.

Note: $35 materials fee will apply for beginners and new students only.

Water-based Printmaking

with Flo Hatcher

Explore traditional and innovative techniques of print media to develop a personal imagery including etching, drypoint, mezzotint, embossment, collagraph, woodcut, linocut and monotype. Water-based inks will be used wherever possible. Experiment with stencil, chine colle, xerography, clay plates and print imagery within the artist book format. Classroom experience will be enhanced with slides, videos, and trips to print exhibitions. Open to all levels.

Printmaking Lab

This class explores a variety of methods for exploiting the capabilities of the computer in the production of matrices for traditional intaglio, relief and lithographic printing. Students will develop ideas and images in cooperation with a variety of new materials and techniques, including CNC, laser and digital printing. Emphasis will be on experimentation within an integrative practice.

Advanced Printmaking

Give yourself studio time for personal and/or collaborative artistic investigation! Explore the benefits of printing in multiple layers with intaglio, relief, silk aquatint, photo polymer, lithography processes, plus mixed media, chine colle, digital and experimental techniques. Analyze artwork, plan individual approaches and explore exhibition opportunities.

Open Studio

Open Print Studio

with Studio Printmaker

Students in eligible printmaking classes may attend one weekly Open Print Studio session as part of their class fee. Additional open print session fees vary. The Printmaking Studio is outfitted with four etching presses (Bed sizes from 28” x 50” up to 36” x 60”), a light exposure unit, and a separate room for printing editions. No instruction.

Prerequisite: Requires faculty approval and adequate knowledge to work independently in a print studio.
