Learn traditional and experimental printmaking processes while concentrating in one area or exploring many. Etch like Rembrandt, Goya, and Kentridge; monotype like Degas, Masur, and Olivera; woodcut like Dürer and Frankenthaler; lithograph like Kollwitz and Rauschenberg. Combine other media with printmaking. Includes one 4-hour practice session per week during monitored practice hours.
Suggested ages: 18 +

Monotype Printmaking

Monotype is the most painterly and spontaneous printmaking process. We will experiment with a variety of textures, materials, and techniques to create unique, multilayered prints, and combine traditional printmaking with digital, photographic, and drawn or painted imagery. We can also use relief and intaglio processes to create monoprints. Come expand and explore your visual horizons. Includes one 4-hour practice session per week during monitored practice hours.

Silkscreen/Serigraph Printmaking A

Silkscreen/serigraph printmaking is a highly versatile process used to transfer images onto a variety of surfaces. We will photo transfer your images to the printing screens and print onto paper, fabric, or wood panel. You can work with images based in photography, drawing, painting, or multimedia art. We will discuss image separations (digital and hand) to print images with more than one color. Then we learn how to register multiple colors for printing. Includes one 4-hour practice session per week during monitored practice hours.
Suggested ages: 18 +
Supplies: CAW supplies silkscreens, squeegees, and inks in primary colors, black, and white. For additional inks, students can purchase Speedball or Jaquard silkscreen inks. Get “acrylic” for printing on paper. Get “fabric” for printing on fabrics. Note: Fabric ink will work on paper, but acrylic won’t work on fabric. Additional helpful items will be discussed during the first class.

Explore innovative print processes using safe water-soluable inks. Develop personal imagery utilizing woodcut/linocut, etching/drypoint, monotype/trace-monotype/monoprint, collagraph, embossment, Chine-colle, and other print techniques. Exeriment with various plate supports, mark-making tools, and approaches to image-making.

Explore multiple printmaking techniques or concentrate in one area while using etching, drypoint, woodcut, linocut, monotype, transfer prints, and paper lithography. Learn a new technique or combine some with other artistic media with printmaking. Inspire new approaches to imagery and expand your artistic horizons. Try polymer plate lithography, collagraph, silk aquatint, transfer prints, cardboard drypoint or Chiné-colle as well. Includes one 4-hour practice session per week during monitored practice hours.

Silkscreen Monotype

Learn two painterly ways to create a one-of-a kind silkscreen print using water-based, non-toxic silk screen ink, paints, textures, and stencils. Combining techniques will allow you to experiment in your own unique ways. Demonstration and individualized instruction will be ongoing throughout the workshop.
