Floor Loom Weaving

Learn the basics of preparing and operating a loom to weave a sampler combining many useful weaves. Beginning students will complete the term by designing and weaving one or two simple projects of their choice. Intermediate and advanced students will weave projects with more complex structures using multi-harness looms. Beginning students have a materials fee of $14 payable to the instructor.

Design and Sew Your Own Outfit

Design your own fashion outfit during the first day and then bring it to life over the next 11 weeks. Explore various fashion niches including casual, formal, prom, and red carpet. Learn how to create the pattern, select the proper material for the outfit, create a mock outfit where necessary, and cut and sew both by hand and machine. Along the way, famous designers and the specificity of their contributions to fashion trends will be discussed.
Students are expected to purchase fabric, notions, thread, and any other items needed for the project before the second class.
Suggested ages: 18+
Supplies: On the first day, bring ideas for your outfit. On the second day of class, students will bring all fabric, notions, thread, etc., required for the outfit.

Fold, wrap, and clamp fabric in this introduction to shibori, the Japanese manual resist-dyeing technique. Leave with four beautiful cotton napkins.

Quickly transform raw wool into three-dimensional fuzzy shapes, through the magic of a special needle and some creative vision. Basics of needle felting techniques will be covered, including shaping, color blending, and uses for your creations.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll head home with an ornament or small toy made of wool.
